Beggars' Bath

Once a year on the 18th of Trēes, there is a pathetic little festival held in the perpetually putrescent Foothold of Pipetown. The main pull of the event is a biathlon through Beggars's Creek, finishing in the nauseous effluvia of Pipetown Creek. The participants are beggars, hobos, and other desparate types looking to earn a charitable windfall from the onlookers atop the Final walls, south of Kirād's Stage. The result of the race is always the same, a mad clambering for fallen coins, busted heads, and perhaps an unfortunate floater or two. An official starts the race with a traditional bone horn, sending the racers tripping and stumbling through the filthy waters of Beggars's Creek. The racers continue down the slopes on foot but are not allowed to touch the shore. Onlookers gather on the shores to cheer them on and push others back into the rushing waters. Where the creek joins Pipetown Creek the waters grow deeper and more putrid, requiring the racers to swim if they can. The first to climb up through the waste trickling out of the Great South Culvert, is the winner. The winner can then step through the rusted side of the pipe and receive his winnings from the crowds above. If the race is close, melees generally break out as the finalists clobber one another for the reward.
